Speaking at the launch, Kenneth Farrugia explained that, “Bank of Valletta has been supporting the opera at Teatru Aurora for almost ten years. During this time, we have seen the level of the productions improve significantly year on year. Today, this opera has etched a place on Malta’s cultural calendar, attracting opera lovers from around the globe. We feel very strongly about our responsibility to support arts, in all forms, because we believe that they are essential to a holistic education. Furthermore, it is important to provide more opportunities for the public to become better acquainted with this fascinating world.” He concluded his intervation by wishing the organisers well for another successful production.

Thanking Bank of Valletta for its long-term support, Dr Michael Caruana expressed his satisfaction at the overwhelming response to this operatic performance which is fast heading towards a complete sell-out. “Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’ returns to the Aurora after an absence of seventeen years. This year’s production boasts an international cast which includes soprano Elena Mosuc in the role of Violetta, Stefan Pop in the spoils of Alfredo and the household name Marzio Giossi as Giorgio Germont.”

Mro Colin Attard will once again be conducting the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the Aurora Opera Chorus during this performance. Speaking about the upcoming performance, he expressed his pleasure at being entrusted with its production after an absence of 17 years. Mro Attard explained, “Although composed and set in the mid-19th century, La Traviata is one of those operas that has retained its charm over the years, and the audience will certainly love the rendition of the several beloved arias and choruses, not least the Brindisi. The opera's very humane plot - which remains very contemporary and so easily transmittable to any setting - make this much-loved opera even more appealing.”

La Traviata will be performed at Teatru Aurora on Saturday 17th October 2015 at 19.30 hours. Tickets may be purchased online via www.teatruaurora.com or booked by telephone via the ticket helpline 79045779.
