He praised the organisers as well as the invaluable volunteers for all their hard work in putting the opera together. "Every year, Teatru Aurora gives its audiences the opportunity to get better acquainted with one of the most renowned masterpieces. Bank of Valletta takes its role as patron of local arts and culture very much to heart, and strongly believes in providing the Maltese and Gozitan public with more opportunities to admire and become better acquainted with this fascinating world. Teatru Aurora itself, with its opulent art, is a gem for all opera lovers, and gives greater resonance to this opera." He concluded by saying, "We are proud to give our backing once again to another successful opera which will usher this year's season for the Teatru Aurora."

Dr Michael Caruana, President of Socjetà Filarmonika Leone thanked Bank of Valletta for support over the years, which has secured a future for the theatre and the lyric opera in Gozo. He explained the financial sacrifices that organising such an opera entails. In relation to this year’s choice, Colin Attard said that, “Il Trovatore originally premiered in Rome in 1853, made its debut at Teatru Aurora in 1979. We are really looking forward to hosting this Opera once more after an interval of 20 years" (when in 1994 it was the first opera conducted by Attard at the Aurora).

Il Trovatore marks the 20th Opera to be directed by Mro. Colin Attard. He has been resident director of Teatru tal-Opra Aurora since 1991. Mro Attard gave a brief background of the 4-act opera. Il Trovatore revolves around a brave hero, a selfless heroine and an evil villain. The acts brim with splendid music and some of the best loved arias ever written by Verdi.
