The Teatru tal-Opra Aurora has the pleasure to host, for another year round, the Naupaca Dance Factory (c. 2004) as it presents Divina, a contemporary dance adaptation based on La Divina Commedia, an epic poem by Dante Alighieri. Naupaca Dance Factory is celebrating ten years since its foundation with its eighth large-scale production.

This variation will plunge audiences in the midst of truths and meanings, and present it with the entanglements and wordiness of the poem in all its effectiveness.

The purpose of the allegory can find itself in the body, as the physicality and the realness of the dancers’ movements will further concretise abstractions. We believe that a theatrical stage can offer this sense of being in, of a journey being taken, of movement occurring in a spatial universe.  Dance, as a medium, would realise these figures, and seek to explore and make palpable the lines of the poem, those facts of life that Dante himself searches for throughout his journey.

DIVINA is composed of three acts, namely Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso, and will be narrated through dance, poetry, song and music. Original music score and text contributes to a multi-disciplinry approach to Naupaca’s collaboration with various local and international artists.

Mirroring Dante’s descent in hell and subsequent ascension to purgatory and heaven, Naupaca seeks to take its audience through a self-revelatory journey towards salvation.
