TEATRU TAL-OPRA AURORA IS PROUD TO PRESENT
A SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY TALK BY COLIN ATTARD
AS PART OF 'EUROPEAN OPERA DAYS'
ON FRIDAY MAY 6TH 2016 AT 1930HRS

Each year on the weekend closest to 9 May (Europe Day), opera houses in Europe and beyond open their doors to new and existing audiences to celebrate the art of opera and the talent of those who make it. Their aim is to help bring opera into the mainstream of cultural practice and to enhance its appreciation in today’s society.

Bringing European Opera Days at the Aurora has been in the pipeline for a few years. In active and direct contact with personnel from the mother-company Opera Europa, the Aurora Opera House feels the time is ripe to have Malta hosting, for the first time ever, events that constitute part of European Opera Days. To this end, the Aurora Opera House has been officially appointed as a National Coordinator of European Opera Days for Malta.

Colin Attard

As part of its European Opera Days initiative, the Aurora Opera House is pleased to celebrate Colin Attard’s 25th anniversary on the podium of its orchestra pit.

Special Anniversary Talk: Colin ATTARD
Friday 6th May 2016 | 1930hrs | G. Pace Hall – Aurora Opera House, 1st floor.

Appointed as resident conductor in 1991, Attard was instrumental in reviving the operatic genre in performances and concerts given by the Leone Band. His breakthrough came in 1994 when he conducted Verdi’s Il Trovatore, his first fully-fledged opera at the Aurora Opera House. Since then, he practically conducted an opera every year, (with one exception), and two operas annually for these last 3 years. With the Aurora Opera House, as well as with his own Gaulitanus Choir (which puts up a second opera production at the Aurora), Colin has worked with various foreign orchestras, apart from the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as some of the leading opera artistes of the times, including Eva Marton, Nicola Martinucci, Maria Guleghina, Neil Schicoff, Juan Pons, Stuart Neill and Elena Mosuc. Over a span of more than two decades, he has not only witnessed but actively contributed towards the quantum leap of opera in Gozo (and Malta).

Therefore, it is with pleasure and pride that the Aurora Opera House presents Colin ATTARD in a special anniversary talk in which he recalls and shares a wealth of experiences that makes opera in Gozo (and Malta) what it is today.

Entrance is free of charge, open to the general public.

Public may use the public elevator to the 1st floor.
