Norma Fantini

INGLESE: Born in Cuneo, world-renowned soprano Norma Fantini studied with Iris Adami Corradetti and Andrea Genovese. She was among the finalists of the “Maria Callas” and “Marcello Viotti” competitions and the winner of the “A. Belli” Competition in Spoleto, where she made her debuts in Don Carlo (Elisabetta) and Mahagonny (Jessie).

Endowed with a distinctive voice of staggering range, agility and amplitude, Norma Fantini has enjoyed success after success on the world’s greatest stages. Her successful performances as Aida, Tosca, and Manon Lescaut gave her the chance to win recognition and awards all across the world as one of the best interpreters of this repertoire. One such award is the “XXXV Award Puccini” bestowed by the Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago for her outstanding performances of Puccini’s operas.

Norma Fantini has established an extraordinary international career, performing regularly at the world’s most important opera houses including the Teatro alla Scala (Milan), ROH Covent Garden (London), Metropolitan Opera House (New York), San Francisco Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Opernhaus (Zurich), Staatsoper (Berlin), Teatro Real (Madrid), Teatro dell’Opera (Roma), Teatro Regio (Turin), Arena di Verona, Sferisterio di Macerata, and Teatro San Carlo (Naples).

She worked with distinguished conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Daniele Gatti, Fabio Luisi, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Antonio Pappano, and Nello Santi. As regards stage directors Fantini worked with world-renowned stage directors such as Franco Zeffirelli, Hugo de Ana, Luca Ronconi, Graham Vick, and Bob Wilson,.

During the 2012/13 season she performed in a new production of La forza del destino at Liceu (Barcellona); Tosca at New National Theatre (Tokyo), Wiener Staatsoper, Hamburg Staatsoper and at Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago; a new production of Manon Lescaut at Hamburg Staatsoper staged by Stefan Herheim; a new production of Manon Lescaut at Dresden Semperoper under the baton of Christian Thielemann; as well as Andrea Chénier in Bregenz staged by Keith Warner.

She opened the 2013/14 season performing as Amelia in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera at the Staatsoper (Berlin), followed by Tosca during a Japan tour with Teatro Regio (Turin) and in Las Palmas, and Manon Lescaut at the Teatro Verdi (Salerno).

Her concert platform appearances have included Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, performed in Genève with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, in Glasgow with the Royal Schottish National Orchestra, in London with the London Symphony Orchestra, and in Venice with the Orchestra Symphonica Toscanini under the direction of Lorin Maazel; and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony

Among her future engagements are a concert at Musashino Cultural Foundation (September 2014), Manon Lescaut at the Mikhailovsky Theatre (St. Petersburg - October 2014), Tosca at the Wiener Staatsoper (March 2015), Un ballo in maschera at Hamburg Staatsoper (June 2015) and a concert with the Munchner Rundfunkorchester in Bad Kissinegn (July 2015).

Ms Fantini’s vocal art will continue to be enjoyed through her discography of various DVD and CD recordings.  These include: DVDs of Puccini’s La Boheme from Torre del Lago for Dynamic and Verdi’s Aida from the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie (Brussels) for Opus Arte;   Blu-ray DVDs of Verdi’s Messa da Requiem under the direction of Lorin Maazel for Euro Arts / Unitel Classica and Giordano’s Andrea Chenier from the Bregenzer Festspiele for C Major; CD of Puccini’s Le Villi for Bongiovanni.
