Trovatore News 1Presenting Il Trovatore
News
03.01.2014

Victoria, Gozo –Breaking the customary announcement of the new opera production, a year in advance, Gozo’s largest opera house – The Aurora – proudly announces Verdi’s 4-act grand opera Il Trovatore, on October 11th 2014.

Last year’s Falstaff was dubbed as: “one of the best Aurora has ever staged, raising standards still higher”, so the theatre is ardently rising to the challenge to go beyond its own yardstick with an even grander production. Il Trovatore has it all – a brave hero, a selfless heroine, an evil villain and, above all, four acts brimming with splendid music and some of the best-loved arias ever written by Verdi.

Same weekend – air-conditioned auditorium
For this purpose, the Aurora is keeping the customary second weekend of October – Saturday 11th – but pledging, for the first time, an air-conditioned opera auditorium. At the Aurora, Il Trovatore was premiered in 1979 under the direction of Joseph Sammut, but in 1994 it launched the then new face in local opera Colin Attard when he directed his first opera at the Aurora. Since then, with the exception of just one year, Attard has directed an opera at the Aurora every year, with this new production of Il Trovatore being his 20th one.

Tickets for Il Trovatore will be out on sale from 1st January, at €80, €70, €60 and €45 with a 10% reduction for tickets purchased before end of May 2014.
