Profile May Caruana

Mezzosoprano May Caruana started studying music at a very early age, with her first instrument being the piano. She started her vocal studies around 10 years ago with mezzosoprano Claire Massa, and is currently furthering her vocal and musical development with Ms Juliette Bisazza Zanni. May has appeared as a guest solo artist during various concerts and recitals at the national Manoel Theatre (Malta), St John's Co-Cathedral and a number of recitals at the Palace of the President of Malta.

May’s experience in opera started in the choirs. As a chorister, she participated in several operas, including The Magic Flute and Norma. As she continued her vocal studies, she also undertook a number of solo roles in operas, namely the ‘mother’ and ‘grandmother’ in the children’s opera Little Red Riding Hood. During the 2013 Opera Season at the Manoel Theatre (Malta), she played the role of Mamma Lucia in Cavalleria Rusticana.

May has a first degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Health Services Management.  She works full-time as Chief Operations Officer of the Oncology Hospital, while dedicating most of her free time to her musical development as an accomplished classical singer.
