: Purposely built to host opera, Gozo’s Aurora Opera House has been a clear forerunner in the national pool of the genre and as a house of excellence in opera it needs no introduction. But maybe quite a few less people know that when the theatre is not busy with opera, other events are usually cropping up here and there. And November brings one of such fine moments – symphonic music on the 21st.

The Aurora Opera House will host the Leone Band for the annual symphonic concert <<Leone Band in concert>>, under the adept and well-seasoned baton of Colin Attard.

In a staple musical event in the annual cultural calendar of the band, the theatre and the Gozitan cultural community, the 80-piece windband shall this year present an interesting programme that includes the exquisite suite ‘The Three Elizabeths’ by Eric Coates (1944), the celebrated 'Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna' overture by Von Suppe and Jacob de Haan’s ‘Concerto d’Amore’. From its own musical archives, the Leone Band will revive ‘1565’ a symphonic march penned by former Sicilian conductor Giovanni Giumarra. This will be performed on the 450th anniversary of the Great Siege of Malta. As is customary, Leone Band in concert will also feature a selection for band from the most recently performed opera at the same Aurora Opera House, hence La Traviata featuring the band and instrumental soloists.
