The Teatru tal-Opra Aurora is proud and pleased to announce that its 2015 production of La Traviata will be aired on TVM – Malta’s national television station, on Saturday 19th March 2016 at 8:45pm. This was announced by the Public Broadcasting Services Ltd, the operator of Malta’s national television and radio stations.

By virtue of an agreement with the Government of Malta, Malta’s national TV station has filmed the last two opera productions. In fact, this will the second time running that the opera from the Aurora will be broadcast on TV, following Il Trovatore that was produced in 2014, and aired in January 2015.

In the meantime, way back in time, even the first Aurora opera, (hence, the first opera in Gozo), 39 years ago, in 1977, was filmed and aired on the then national television station.

La Traviata will be broadcast on Saturday, 19th March 2016 at 8:45pm on TVM, with a repeat on Wednesday 20th April 2016 (a month later) at 8:40pm on TVM2.

Now this year is La Traviata’s turn. La Traviata: the story of the woman who fell, was widely acclaimed as an all-rounded success. Elena Mosuc brought to life a very credible and eloquent Violetta while Stefan Pop was Alfredo. Italian baritone Marzio Giossi sang Germont in a single performance on October 17th, 2015.

The broadcasting of La Traviata should serve for all the active volunteers at the Aurora a golden opportunity to cherish the fruit of one’s own hard work, commitment and dedication; the fruit that can be enjoyed not only by those who patronise the theatre but for far larger television audiences.
