TEATRU TAL-OPRA AURORA LAUNCHES
GIACOMO PUCCINI’S THREE-ACT OPERA
TOSCA
ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 15TH 2011

Victoria Gozo – The management of the Teatru tal-Opra Aurora proudly presents the production of Giacomo Puccini’s opera masterpiece Tosca, on Saturday October 15th, 2011. The performance will start at 7:30pm under the distinguished patronage of H.E. Dr George Abela, the President of Malta. This will be the third staging of Tosca at the Aurora since 1978, a second one for conductor Colin Attard who shall be conducting the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, and artistic director Novella Tabili who has been once more entrusted with the set design. The announcement of Tosca, one major crowd-puller, came at a point during the run-up to last year’s Carmen, when all the tickets had been sold out fifteen days prior to the performance. The Teatru tal-Opra Aurora is aspiring to repeat the same success this time round with Tosca.
The powerhouse cast will be spearheaded by three world-renowned primaries – tenor Neil Shicoff (Cavaradossi), soprano Michéle Crider (Tosca) and baritone Juan Pons (Scarpia). While needing no introductions, their names recur at the Metropolitan Opera (New York), Royal Opera House Covent Garden (London), State Opera Houses (Vienna), and the Teatro alla Scala (Milan) amongst other lavish venues. They shall be joined by bass Noel Galea (Angelotti), baritone Romano Franceschetto (Sacristan), and tenor Costantino D’aniello (Spoletta) all of whom have regularly appeared in supporting roles for the last 5 years at the Aurora Theatre. Baritone Louis Andrew Cassar (Jailer) will be a new face while bass Cosimo Arena (Sciarrone), and alto Annabelle Zammit (Shepherd Boy) will make their solo debut after forming part of the Aurora Opera Chorus in the past opera productions.Tosca Photo Album
