Victoria Gozo – The management of the Teatru tal-Opra Aurora proudly presents the production of Giacomo Puccini’s opera masterpiece TURANDOT, on Saturday October 13th, 2012. The performance will start at 7:30pm under the distinguished patronage of H.E. Dr George Abela, the President of Malta. This will be the second staging of Turandot at the Aurora which returns after a decade. Colin Attard shall be conducting the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, while Novella Tabili is once more entrusted with the artistic direction and the set design.

Turandot is coinciding with the 35th anniversary of the first opera ever to be performed in Gozo, which was another Puccini favourite – Madame Butterfly, staged at the same Aurora Theatre, in January 1977. Furthermore, the opera production will be but one of the many events which the Leone Philharmonic Society shall be organising to commemorate its 150 anniversary of musical and cultural service to Gozo and its inhabitants (1863 – 2013). These commemorations kicked off in mid-2012 and will prolong until the end of 2013.

The primaries have now been be announced. It is indeed with pleasure that the Aurora Theatre announces the star participation of Ukranian-born soprano Maria Guleghina in the title role of Princess Turandot. Currently deemed as the top-Turandot of the moment, she will be pausing from her recurring appointments at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House to come to Gozo to perform Turandot at the Aurora for one night, and return to New York to proceed with her operatic season thereafter, where she is also performing the role of Princess Turandot.
