Any time is a good time for a big party. But 2026 raises the bar! Aurora turns 50, and it’s bound to celebrate with something big, bold and boisterous. So while Leone goes pop every year, this time it chose to go full jubilant! And what are we celebrating? We’re celebrating the 50 years of a legendary musical venue – a theatre, an opera house, but also a dance hall, a ball room, a discotheque, a club, a musical platform that hosted generations, and one that, to date, still pulses with nostalgia and energy and unforgettable memories.
The Leone Band, under the indefatigable Colin Attard, remains the backbone of the show in this anniversary edition. Back in 2008 it went on record as the first of the traditional village bands with a complete ‘pop concert’. At it retains its primacy in the field with all sorts of innovative elements that have maintained Leone Goes Pop unrivalled through the years.
And this year, as we celebrate the 50th of a local venue, local becomes an operative keyword in the selection of the repertoire, which will be announced in due course. Unparalleled in its sound and lights installations, Leone Goes Jubilee is the go-to event in Gozo this May.
The 17th edition of Leone Goes Pop, or rather, Leone Goes… Jubilee! will be hosted at the Aurora Opera House on Saturday 23rd May 2026, starting at 8:30pm. The line-up of singers includes Daniel Cauchi, Jasmine Abela, Mike Spiteri and Lisa Gauci.
Thanks to the Ministry for Gozo and a number of generous sponsors, entrance tickets are €10.00 per person. However, anyone wanting to up the experience on this much-anticipated night, premium tickets at €25.00 per head are available in the boxes. Premium tickets come with an exclusive box for the added luxury of space and comfort. Both normal and premium tickets are obtainable online from www.teatruaurora.com.
Leone Goes… Jubilee! (17th ed.) is being produced by the Leone Band, with the distinguished support of the Directorate of Cultural Heritage within the Ministry for Gozo, the Victoria Local Council, and Greenmt.
