Marvic Monreal
THE AURORA GALA - 30 DECEMBER 2021
A star appearance in a glittering night
In the run up to the much coveted night at the Aurora, the theatre is delighted to announce the star appearance of highly-acclaimed Maltese international mezzo-soprano, Marvic Monreal.
Currently at the Opera Studio at Frankfurt Opera, Monreal was a young artist at the National Opera Studio in London 2018-2019, previously graduating from the Royal Academy of Music. At the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, she covered Charlotte in Werther and Mercedes in Carmen. This time round, at The Aurora Gala, Monreal is expected to bring the verve and flair of none other than the title role, as the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra brings highlights of the most celebrated opera in French, Carmen, which has wowed Aurora audiences for 4 times since 1988. And while the complete musical bill is yet to be announced, Monreal is also expected to add some more spark to the evening with immortal Neapolitan numbers as well.
Monreal’s star appearance is another treat to the audience, in addition to the artistic quality that the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra always brings. But it is also a deliberate choice of the Opera House to increase awareness of the outstanding Maltese talent. It is a strong vote of confidence in the Maltese artistic product, not least Marvic Monreal herself.
In fact, at this Aurora Gala, Monreal would be returning with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, following her recent success as guest artist in a concert featuring the world acclaimed soprano Diana Damrau. She has also sang Verdi Requiem excerpts for a sacred music concert with the renowned international stars Joseph Calleja, Sondra Radvanovsky and Christian Van Horn.
Locally, Monreal performed Beethoven Symphony No.9 in Europe Day in Malta, was the guest solo artist in the annual President’s concert, debuted at the Valletta Baroque Festival, performed Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor at Teatru Astra in Gozo and Dido in Dido and Aeneas at Teatru Manoel.
She will be singing Tisbe and covering Angelina in La Cenerentola with the New Generation Festival this summer.
The Aurora Gala will be held at the Teatru tal-Opra Aurora on Thursday 30th December 2021. It includes a Gala Concert at 7:30pm with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Colin Attard and Marvic Monreal, followed by an optional 8-course fine-dine dinner at the Blue Lion Restaurant, on the Aurora Opera House ground floor. Tickets for the concert and/or dinner may be obtained following this link.
