Aida Postponed to 2022
The 2020 new-production of Aida which was set to open the 2020/21 theatre season, and eventually postponed to October 2021 has now been once more postponed to October 2022. This was made public by the Aurora opera house after consultations with the Ministry for Gozo and Arts Council Malta.
It has just been announced that the two Gozo operas, which customarily take place in October, will once more be postponed to October 2022, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing public health restrictions. This means, that Aurora’s own AIDA will now be rescheduled for Saturday 15th October 2022.
Notwithstanding the fact that COVID-19 restrictions have somewhat started to ease, this difficult decision was taken in view of the current public health conditions which do not allow for the right circumstances and health protocols to be followed both at front-of-house and backstage dimensions. While one may be able to sacrifice ticket sales and audience percentages, an AIDA cast, chorus and dance troupe may never be able to follow any kind of social-distancing etiquette in an indoor theatre and on a stage such as the Aurora’s.
Since the two Gozo operas form part of the Gozo Cultural Support Programme, the joint announcement of their postponement comes after consultations between the Government’s Ministry for Gozo and Arts Council Malta and the two Gozo theatres.
For this matter, Teatru tal-Opra Aurora would like to inform its esteemed and loyal patrons that any reservations for Aida 2021 will automatically be carried forward for Aida 2022. By default, any tickets already purchased for Aida 2021 will be applicable for Aida 2022. New tickets will be emailed in due course. However, patrons wishing to opt for a refund may request such by emailing teatruaurora@leone.org.mt. Refunds will be issued in full.
Teatru tal-Opra Aurora would like to thank the Ministry for Gozo and Arts Council Malta for their unwavering support as well the patrons who have continuously expressed their sympathy and loyalty during these trying times.
